May 10: Bauma exhibition a success for Dunlop.
The 29th Bauma international trade fair for construction and mining machinery held in Munich during April proved to be a great success for Dunlop Conveyor Belting, despite the temporary ban on air travel caused by the volcano in Iceland.
415,000 visitors from more than 200 countries visited the fair, which is held every three years and is the world’s leading trade event of its kind. Dunlop sales manager Hans Mensert was pleasantly surprised. “The ban on air travel did affect visitor numbers for the first couple of days but we were delighted by the amount of interest we received”.
With more than 3000 exhibitors from 53 countries, the fair is also an opportunity for customers and distributors to meet. Although there were slightly fewer visitors than in previous years, sales and marketing director Andries Smilda said that the number of sales leads gained exceeded expectations. “We made some very good contacts with several potentially new customers, many of whom were from countries where we traditionally do not have a particularly strong market presence”. “We are already working on a large number of enquiries, some of which are very exciting indeed”.
Visitors to the Dunlop stand showed considerable interest in sidewall belts and in their UsFlex belt, which Dunlop refer to as being the ‘ultimate solution’ in high performance belting. “UsFlex is an amazing product, especially when it comes to rip resistance and high impact absorption” said Mr Smilda. This was further endorsed by the fact that one of Dunlop’s largest customers, Wirtgen, were demonstrating their new Surface Miner 4200 machine at the exhibition, which features the highly innovative and successful 1800 mm high-chevron UsFlex belt.
